Assignment 2A – Bug List

1. Driving through Gainesville traffic during rush hour

WHY it exists: Everyone gets out of work around 5pm. This makes all of the popular roads throughout Gainesville extremely crowded during that time.

2. Southwest Recreation Center being way too busy

WHY it exists: The University of Florida has a huge student population but not a lot of available gym space. This results in the main student gym being extremely packed at any given hour.

3. Scooter not starting on demand

WHY it exists: My scooter doesn't start 100% of the time. This is due to the scooter being older and having a lot of miles.

4. Dirty car interior

WHY it exists: I don't like it when the interior of my car is dirty. I consider the interior to be dirty when the floor mats aren't vacuumed and there's trash on the interior. It's due to me not cleaning it routinely enough and in some cases dirty friends.

5. Incoming hurricane causing every gas station in town to be packed

WHY it exists: People want to be as prepared as possible and take all of the precautions necessary for the incoming hurricane. 

6. The long line at the Chipotle on University

WHY it exists: The Chipotle on University is the branch that's closest to campus. This results in a large number of students going there for food after class.

7. My computer being dead when I need to use it

WHY it exists: This problem exists when I need to use my computer for the first time in a few days. Usually, the computer's battery will die over the course of a few days if I don't use it. 

8. Packages from Amazon showing up later than advertised

WHY it exists: Some sort of error/miscommunication between Amazon and the shipping company.

9. Running out of body wash when it's needed

WHY it exists: Not going to CVS routinely enough to have a backup supply

10. Having to clean the whole house/apartment by yourself

WHY it exists: This bug exists when your roommates either can't help you clean the place or just don't want to

11. When you have to go to the bathroom while you're out but the nearest public one is being used

WHY it exists: Someone else had to go to the bathroom and got to the nearest public one before you

12. When new cloths shrink in the dryer

WHY it exists: Sometimes the heat of the dryer is too intense for some clothing materials. This bug occurs if I try to machine dry a material I'm pretty sure will shrink instead of air drying it.

13. When you hurt your elbow throwing the football

WHY it exists: A lot of times, if I start to throw a football with my friends without warming my arm up, my elbow will hurt afterwards

14. When all of my technology/devices are dead and I don't have access to a charger

WHY it exists: This happens when I am not diligent and ignore the fact that my devices need more juice.

15. When I'm trying to text someone to make plans, but they don't answer their phone

WHY it exists: The other person might be busy/have their hands tied with something else, or they could be ignoring you

16. When your car displays the low tire pressure warning

WHY it exists: This happens when you haven't filled the air in your tires for a couple months. It happens rarely, but when it does, it requires immediate attention for the most part.

17. When a roommate uses dishes or pans of mine but doesn't wash them and put them back when they're done

WHY it exists: This results from the roommate being inconsiderate or just having different standards of cleanliness than you

18. When people yell about pointless things

WHY it exists: The person yelling might just be upset about something in the moment

19. When I have to skip a workout because of having too much school work

WHY it exists: This happens when I have so much school work that I don't have time to get a workout in.

20. When I'm really tired and want to go to bed but remember that I still have to get up and brush my teeth/wash my face

WHY it exists: Having to have proper oral hygiene/facial cleanliness 


Reflection: This assignment wasn't incredibly difficult because there have been some things that bugged me in the process of getting moved back to Gainesville. However, it was challenging in the sense that I had to think a lot for the last quarter of the list. This assignment was interesting because I realized that while there are numerous things that bug me on a daily basis, it's not as easy as you would expect to recall all of them. I enjoyed this assignment as it made me think outside of the box, and I look forward to future assignments for this course.

    Hi Michael! I enjoy your reflection, because it shows that after you set to notice bugs, you notice them easily in a new situation (you moving back to Gainesville). I agree the last quarter was more difficult, made me percieve more things. I also included rush hour traffic as a bug, as is probably a bug for many people. We still have to perfect innovation to target that bug. Your post is well written!

29A – Venture Concept No. 2

1) My venture concept is to open a new gym facility that's accessible to college students in the Gainesville, Florida area. My concept is a great opportunity due to the limited options students have when it comes to selecting a facility. Currently, there's only one main gym, Southwest Recreation Center, and it's always packed due to the number of students trying to use it. This disincentives exercise and makes the whole workout experience unenjoyable as there's always people close to you and you always have to wait an unreasonable amount of time for equipment. If a new facility was created, students would flock to it in an attempt to avoid the crowds that come along with the current facility, and the venture would experience great success. 4A – Forming An Opportunity Belief

Beginning point  I believe there is an opportunity for more gym space at the University of Florida Describe your belief The unmet need at this university is excess weight room space. Students at this university have this unmet need, as they experience long lines and crowded spaces whenever they use the limited weight room space available. The need has come from a combination of a growing student population and a fixed amount of weight room space. In an attempt to meet this need now, students are trying to go to the gym during times of the day where its least crowded, at the expense of having the freedom to go whenever they want.
